Vietnam firm banned from World Bank projects

The World Bank Wednesday announced the debarment of three companies, and one individual from participating in its financially-aided projects in Vietnam and Indonesia for their sanctionable practices.

Accordingly, Kellogg Brown & Root Pty Ltd (KBR Pty) was debarred for two years, following an investigation by WB Integrity Vic Presidency into violations of the Consultant’s Guidelines under a WB-financed water supply project in Vietnam.

“KBR Pty, an Australian subsidiary of KBR, Inc, misrepresented the availability of key consultants during contract negotiation and execution, which resulted in KBR Pty being awarded the contract and led to delays in contract execution,” the announcement said.

The Vietnam-based Social and Environmental Development JSC (SECO), and its managing director Nguyen Xuan Doan, also received debarment with their engaging in a scheme to defraud the WB’s client under a WB-financed water supply project.

SECO has been declared ineligible to participate in WB-financed projects for the next five years, the bank said.

The WB also announced a three-year ban of the Indonesia’s PT Amythas Experts and Associates for fraudulent practices in relation to a WB-financed community development and poverty alleviation project.

KBR Pty and PT Amythas Experts and Associates, as well as SECO, cannot be awarded a contract, or otherwise participate in new activities under WB-financed or executed projects during the debarment period, the announcement stated.
