Sunday traffic mishaps kill 2, injure 23


A truck driver was killed on the spot after his vehicle crashed into a mountain in the central province of Phu Yen early Sunday

Two people died and 23 others were hurt in three separate traffic accidents on Sunday.

At 6:30 a.m., a truck heading for the south hit the mountainside at the Ca Mountain Pass in the central province of Phu Yen, killing driver Nguyen Phi Hung on the spot.

Earlier, at 3:30 a.m., a bus carrying 54 people travelling from Bac Giang Province in the north to Ho Chi Minh City overturned at the Lo Xo Mountain Pass in the Central Highlands Province of Kon Tum.

Twenty-one passengers were injured in the accident, seven of them seriously, local authorities said. They also said the accident happened because driver Pham Van Minh lost control of the vehicle.

In the southern province of Dong Nai, at 10:35 a.m., a collision involving a bus, a truck and two motorbikes at the Vung Tau intersection claimed the life of one person and injured two others.

Bien Hoa police said that the bus carrying eight passengers from Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to HCMC crashed into two motorbikes driving in the same direction after being hit by the truck from behind.

The accident killed motorbike rider Do Thi Kim Thu on the spot. Her husband, Nguyen Van Danh, is now in critical condition. The woman on the other motorbike was also seriously hurt.

The incident stopped traffic at the Vung Tau intersection for nearly two hours.

The police are investigating the accident.
