9 none-Communists shortlisted to run for House

41 candidates from Ho Chi Minh City have been shortlisted to be qualified to run for the National Assembly - Vietnam’s parliament - including nine people who are not members of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The 41 qualified candidates also include 12 women, 2 minority ethnic people.
Of these official candidates, 20 are post-graduates and 21 have university degrees.
Famous actress Hong Anh is included in the list after she got support at a consultative conference yesterday.
At the third consultative conference, held by the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee, Pham Thi Hong Anh was among 22 candidates who won 100 percent of votes from the conference’s participants.
Hong Anh was assessed as a young active actress who has achieved many good performances in her cinema activities.
Earlier, Hong Anh won all 14 votes at her agency where she is working. In the location where she is living, 100 percent voters also supported Hong Anh as a NA candidate.
Hong Anh was nominated as a NA candidate by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations
Of the 41, 2 are young women of age 34, including actress Hong Anh and Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, deputy secretary of the HCM City Communist Union.
The eldest is lawyer Nguyen Dang Trung, 69, chairman the Party Committee secretary of the HCM City Bar. He is now a deputy of the 12th NA.
The two minority ethnic people include Diep Dung, general director of the State Financial Investment Company, and Maxch Dares Samael, head of the Representative Board of Islamic Community of Ho Chi Minh City.
As such, the total number of NA candidates from HCM City is 52, including 41 nominated by the city Fatherland Front Committee and 11 by central agencies.
The 13th NA election is scheduled on May 22, 2011.
